Steel cents were only minted in 1943. All US cents since mid-1982 have been made of zinc with a thin coating of copper.
Using that fact you can estimate the density. Because the coin is 97.5% zinc, it'll be almost exactly the same as that of pure zinc which can be found easily on almost any chemistry or Metallurgy reference site - or even WikiAnswers. Please see the Related Question.
It's likely that, given wartime limitations, the steel used was not of uniform quality throughout all mintages. Depending on the quality used for any particular batch of coins, a 1943 cent's density would be roughly that of standard mild steel, about 7.85 gm/cm3
A penny is denser than a paperclip. Pennies are made of copper and have a higher density compared to paperclips, which are typically made of steel. Density is a measure of mass per unit volume, so the penny is denser due to its material composition.
The density of a penny is approximately 7.9 grams per cubic centimeter.
The density of a penny from 1979 is about 7.11 grams per cubic centimeter.
Penny. Put the ball, duck and penny in water. Only the penny sinks.

A penny has more density.
Steel has the greatest density of the three.
The 1944 steel penny is worth between $75,000 and $110,000. This steel penny was minted by mistake and there were not a lot of them around.
A 1943 steel penny with no mintmark can be worth $.35 - $1.50
The density of aluminized steel is 2710. Additionally, the density of its counterpart, carbon steel, is slightly different at 2833.
The density of steel as per IS 2062 will vary. This is because steel's density typically changes with composition.
A 1943 steel penny is worth just that 1cent.
