Depending on what kind of energy you are talking about... For millions, nay billions, of years, our ancestors ate food, so the energy source would be anything from which we got food. If you mean other than food, like technological uses, that would probably be wood, used to make a fire.
It kind of depends if you believe in evolution...
If so, its a toss up between grains or protein...

Wood burned for fire
Hydrogen is a nonrenewable source of energy when used for nuclear fusion (which is still not a technologically attainable power generation mechanism). When used as an energy carrier for oxidation (e.g. fuel cell, and internal combustion engine) hydrogen is not an energy source. In such applications, hydrogen is a man-made resource.
Nuclear reactions like nuclear power plants ^_~

The ultimate source of energy available to man is the sun, the huge thermo-nuclear furnace that supplies the earth with the heat and light that are essential to life. The sun produces thermal energy (heat energy) in the form of radiation. Thermal energy is heat energy in transfer. Heat is a form of energy. When heat it is in the process of being transfered, it is called thermal energy. At a more basic level, thermal energy comes form the movement of atoms and molecules in matter. It is a form of kinetic energy produced from the random movements of those molecules.
when a man climbing the hill, one type of energy exists that is potential energy
Man has used fire (a source of energy) since ancient times and also used animals (a source of mechanical energy) to plough fields since ancient times. Therefore we do not know who was first to find energy.

The main energy source is the sun
Glucose is the energy source that is used to release ATP through aerobic respiration. this is safe man
ATP, adenosine triphosphate :)
natural chemical energy is a renewable one, but man made chemicals are not....
Fried chicken. It is the quintessential source of energy. Ask my man Kevin Durant.
It wasn't discovered, but seen by early man. How it was there was answered in myths and mythology by man.
It was not invented. It is a natural mineral and has been used by man since the earliest time.
Olive oil is man's best source of energy.
Nature won that award. Man discovered fire as a source of warmth very early. No one knows who used fire first.
The earliest known hominids include species like Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Ardipithecus ramidus, and Australopithecus afarensis. These species lived in Africa around 6 to 7 million years ago and are considered early ancestors of humans.
