I'll guess you're talking about asleeve. Basically you get a steel sleeve with the inside diameter you need, bore a hole in the aluminum of a slightly small diameter then the outside of the sleeve and then press the sleeve into the whole. They make collapsable sleeves that are made for just this operation in mind. They use them for cylinder head alignment on cars a lot. You just gentlytap them into the cylinder head bolt hole with a hammer. The bolt then fits down the middle of the sleeve and the sleeve lines the head up on the cylinder block.

If it's just the plating just damaged, I would highly reccomend having it replated. The other option is to put a sleeve in the cylinder.
your 86 cr250 can be bored to .080 oversized by using a wiseco piston kit. the only problem is the factory cylinder is nikisil coated over aluminum sleeve. if you bore the cylinder to oversize you will need to reapply the nikasil coating over the aluminum sleeve. the only other option is to install a steel sleeve so you do not need to recoat the aluminum cyl. either way is not a cheap way to go.
