On the mikes I have used, you insert a slide, focus on it and whatever. To lift the mike to put in a different slide, you use the hand lever. Then, when you put in the next slide, and lever the mike back down, the new slide is very nearly in perfect focus. In other words, you don't have to use the focus knob to raise and lower the mike to put in different slides, and then have to go through the focusing routine all over again.
