In the metric system the kg is the basic unit of mass. 1000 kg is called a tonne (2200lb).

Then prefixes are used indicating quantity:

Mega = 1 000 000, 106

Giga = 109

Tera = 1012

Peta = 1015

In the Imperial system: the UK ton is 2240 lb, the US ton is 2000 lb
