PE = m•g•h, where m is mass in kg, g is 9.8m/s2, and h is height above the earth in meters. If an object is on the ground, it's height above the earth is zero, so it has zero PE.

The formula for kinetic energy is 1/2 x mass x speed squared. Just replace the numbers you have, and do the calculation. Since you are using SI units, the answer will also be in SI units - in this case, joules.

Why does an object sitting on top of a ledge have potential energy?

Whether it has (gravitational) potential energy or not depends on what level you (arbitrarily) define as zero. If you define the bottom of the ledge as the "zero" level, then the top of the ledge will have positive energy. If you define the top of the ledge as the "zero" level, then the object on the top of the ledge will have zero potential energy (and at the bottom of the ledge it will have negative potential energy). In any case, at the top of a ledge, an object will have more potential energy than at the bottom of the ledge, because it requires work to push the object up; also, in principle the potential energy can be recovered (converted to some other type of energy) if the object falls down.

Calculate the potential energy of a 5 kg object sitting on a 3 meter ledge?

The equation to use here is Epotential=mgh.Using your given values, and assuming the acceleration due to gravity to be 9.81ms-2, the potential energy can be found to be 147 Joules.

Book on a shelf potential or kinetic energy?

Carry it up a cliff. ************************** Increase the height of the object or increase the mass.

A flowerpot falls from a ledge 50 m above the ground. compare the potential and kinetic energy when it is at 25 m above the ground to its original potential and kinetic energy?

After falling 25 meters, it has less potential energy, by an amount calculated with the formula mgh (mass x gravity x height). If you ignore air resistance, the kinetic energy will increase by the same amount.

Which has more potential energy a 10 kg box rolled on a 5 meter long ramp up to ledge or a 10 kg box rolled up a 20 meter long ramp?

The potential energy that the box gained only depends on how high it was raised, not on how it got there. If both boxes started at the same height and ended at the same height, then they both gained the same amount of potential energy.

What is an example of only potential energy?

A ball sitting at the top of a ledge, it has a lot of potential energy until it is pushed off the ledge then it is converted into kinetic energy

What is the gravitational potential energy of a person with a weight of 600 N that is standing on a ledge that is 25 m up on the air?

PE = w*h = 600*25 = 15000 joules or 1.5 kJ

Why shouldn't you place heavy objects on the ledge behind the passenger seat while driving a car?

Any unsecured item in a car has the potential to become a projectile. In an accident where the front of the vehicle impacted an object, there is every chance that a heavy item placed on the ledge behind the passenger's seat would fly forwards like a missile and hit the passenger in the back of the head.

In the ship she is hidden in a room. You need to be able to fly to reach her. After you're at the clock tower, she is sitting on the ledge.

A Boulder with the mass of 2500 kg rest on ledge 200 m above ground what is the boulder s gravitational potential energy?

PE = m g H = (2,500) x (9.8) x (200) = 4,900,000 joules, with respect to the ground level
