The Model 91-38 short rifle had a barrel long enough to pretty fully use the powder charge of the 6.5x52 round, so it's range should not be much less than the original Model 91 or at least the M 91-24 Troop Special which had a barrel similar to the 91-38 short rifle. Despite trash talk about Carcanos, much of which centers around the Kennedy assassination, the rifles were quite accurate with military ammunition.

Both the original M-91 and the 91-24 TS had a rear battle sight fixed at 300 meters and an adjustable sight for long range work that was adjustable from 600 to 1500 meters - almost a mile. It seems a little optimistic to think of hitting a target a mile away with a 160 grain bullet leaving the muzzle at 2400 FPS, but if you hit something, there would be lethal energy remaining.
