A wall thermometer is a device used to measure and display the temperature in a room or space. It is typically fixed to a wall for easy visibility and can come in various designs, such as analog or digital, to suit different preferences. Wall thermometers are commonly used in homes, offices, and other indoor environments to help monitor and regulate temperature levels.
The least count of a wall thermometer is typically 1 degree Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending on the scale used. This means that the thermometer can measure temperature changes in increments of 1 degree.
use a thermometer. We can feel how hot or cold something is. However, sometimes things are just too hot or cold for us to feel safely. At other times we need to know exactly how hot or cold something is. When we need to measure temperature correctly we need to use an instrument called a thermometer. This measures temperature in degrees Celsius [sometimes called centigrade] or degrees Fahrenheit. There are different types of thermometers for different situations. A medical thermometer, for example, needs to be very accurate. It measures in fractions of degrees. When we are ill, even tiny changes in temperature are important. Some thermometers use a liquid that moves up a very fine glass tube. Most room thermometers, and outdoor thermometers are like this. The liquid is either mercury [ which is poisonous] or coloured alcohol. As liquids get warmer they expand [get bigger], and move up the tube. Water expands too, but not as much as alcohol and mercury. Thermometers that might be used by small children are not made of glass. They use a digital display which lights up the temperature. Inside the displays are chemicals that change colour according to the temperature.
The bulb of a mercury thermometer is designed to contain a small volume of mercury that expands and contracts with temperature changes. The thin glass wall allows for efficient heat transfer between the bulb and the surrounding environment, ensuring accurate temperature measurements.
Alcohol is used in thermometers because it has a low freezing point and a wide temperature range over which it remains a liquid, making it effective for measuring temperature variations. Additionally, alcohol is non-toxic and colorless, making it safe and easy to use in a thermometer.
The plural of thermometer is thermometers.
A wall thermometer measures the room temperature.

A thermostat for heating or a thermometer for air temperature is typically placed on an inside wall (not outside wall), and away from heating vents or direct sunlight.
There are many good options for one to purchase a wall thermometer. One can find these at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Global Industries, Amazon, DHgate and eBay in a variety of different styles.

1) Place thermometer perpendicular to the floor and against the wall. 2) Make a mark on the wall at the top of the thermometer. 3) Shift thermometer up so bottom is at mark. 4) Repeat 2) and 3) until close to the ceiling. 5) Shift thermometer up until it touches ceiling and mark location of highest mark on thermometer to determine fraction of thermometer length for last segment. This would give the height of the room in units of "thermometers". This is not a standard unit of measurement, but it is a measurement. If you desire a more standard unit like centimeters, then measure the length of the thermometer and multiply by height of the room in "thermometers". However, you didn't say whether you had a ruler for measuring the thermometer. As as alternative, you could look up the length of the thermometer in the catalog from which it was purchased.
you have to turn the thermometer on heat
