a bomb can go off in a number of ways. If it is a grenade, the fuse is lit by the pulling of the pin and ejection of the lever. When the spark reaches the ignitor, a tiny explosion is produced that causes a chain reaction with the gunpowder in the grenade. For one of those bombs with the "Which one should I cut? Red or Blue" wires, I'm not quite sure.
