Nikola Tesla.
Thomas Edison did not invent the electric chair; he was against its use. However, he did work on developing direct current (DC) electricity to compete with alternating current (AC) systems, which were used in the first electric chairs. Edison saw the electric chair as a way to discredit AC technology, which was promoted by his rival, George Westinghouse.
Tesla's nemesis is generally considered to be Thomas Edison. The two were rival inventors during the late 19th century, with Edison being a proponent of direct current (DC) electricity and Tesla advocating for alternating current (AC) electricity. Their competition led to the "War of Currents," with Tesla ultimately being the proponent of the more efficient AC system that is widely used today.
Tesla was Edison's enemy, Mark Twain's friend and J.P Morgan's client. Tesla made his first million before he was 40, yet gave up the royalties on his induction motor invention as a gesture of friendship to George Westinghouse and died almost in poverty. Handsome, magnetic and elegant he was the "catch" of New York society. A lifelong bachelor, he led a somewhat isolated existence, devoting his full energy to science.
Tesla moved to the United States in 1884. When he arrived, he worked as an assistant to Thomas Edison, then in his late 30's. Edison had just invented the electric light bulb, but he needed a system to distribute electricity to houses. He designed a DC (direct current) system, but it had many bugs in it. Edison promised Tesla lots of money in bonuses if he could get the bugs out. Tesla took the challenge and ended up saving Edison over $100,000, which was millions of dollars by today's standards. Edison later refused to keep his promise. Tesla quit not long after that, and Edison spent the rest of his life trying to discredit Tesla which is the main reason why he is so unknown today. Edison was envious of him and instead of working a relatioship and working with him, the rest is known.
