A liquid has a definite volume (which can change with temperature), but takes the shape of its container.
A Liquid is the state that has no definite shape, since the atoms can move around, it is therefore able to form itself to the shape of its container. However, since the atoms still have weak bonds to one another, it cannot fill up a closed container by stretching out the atoms. (The form of matter that does this is a gas.)
* Liquids can be very slightly compressed, but not to the extent of gases.

There are 3 phases of matter. Solids, liquids and gases. Solids have a definite shape and a definite volume. Liquids do not have a definite shape but do have a definite volume. Gases do not have a definite shape as they can "flow", and they do not have a definite volume as they can fill a container by changing in pressure (density).
Gas that is allowed to escape and not caught in a container

There is no such state of matter. Solid has a definite shape and volume, liquid has a definite volume but not a definite shape, gases have neither a definite shape nor a definite volume.
No state of matter corresponds to this. Solids are the only state with definite shape, but they have a definite volume too.
The state of matter is actually to states of matter. Solid and liquid are the states of matter that have a volume,(liquid) and shape(solid).

There is no such state of matter. Solid has a definite shape and volume, liquid has a definite volume but not a definite shape, gases have neither a definite shape nor a definite volume.
The state of matter that has definite shape and definite volume is called solid.
The state of matter that has definite shape and definite volume is called solid.
The state of matter having a definite volume but no definite shape is liquid.
gas has no shape and no definite volume. liquids have no definite shape, but a definite volume, and solids have a definite volume and a definite shape
A solid has a definite shape and definite volume.
A solid has a definite shape and definite volume.
Liquids have definite volume but not shape.
That would be gas. Liquids have no definite shape but definite volume, and solids have definite shape and definite volume. :)
The liquid state of matter has volume but no definite shape.
The state of matter that has no definite shape or volume is a gas.
A state of matter having definite volume but no definite shape is called, "liquid".
