Einstein held a number of occupations. He worked as a clerk in a patent office, a research assistant, and as a professor, among other things.

His "work" would probably best apply to his contributions to science. In addition to the famous Theory of General Relativity, he also is credited as being the founder of Quantum Physics, and formulated the well-known equation E=MC^2, among many other things.
