Aluminum combs are better to use in winter than plastic because it can charge

more easily in the dry air during the winter.

Another opinion:

I'm going to say that the aluminum comb is better to use in Winter, but for exactly

the opposite reason. The aluminum comb, being a conductor and being held in your

hand, can not hold a static charge, and this is exactly what you need in dry air. If

you combed your hair with something that could gather and hold a charge, then the

more you comb, the more each hair becomes charged, and wants to stand straight

up and stay away from every other hair. This is exactly what you're trying to avoid

by combing it.

Plastic combs tend to break in any season, I would suggest using only aluminum.

In winter, plastic combs are better to use on horses' manes and tails. This is because they do not hold onto the cold as much as the aluminum combs do. However, either are safe to use.

Is a comb a conductor?

Combs are made of plastic, and plastic is not a great conductor of electricity.

When you rub a plastic comb against your hair what does it produce?

If the hair is dry, and the air is also very dry, plastic combs (especially nylon) may generate static electricity, and this can result in the hairs standing on end as the charged hair shafts repel each other. In most circumstances, there is enough moisture in the air, in the hair, or on the hair to keep it combed in place. The low relative humidity in heated interior air during the winter is usually the culprit.

Why does plastic comb attract small pieces when moved in dry hair?

because at night little leprachauns take glue and dip the combs in it to make them sticky. Then they put them through rainbows for and extra coat like a clear coat.

How are plastics used in day to day life?

Plastic is a polymer of hydrocarbon monomers, and is used frequently in everyday life as polythene bags, containers, cutting boards, appliances, etc. From our toothbrushes, to hairbrushes (and combs), to scrubbing brushes, to car wash brushes (and the cars we sit in), plastics form all or part of the products we use. From Tupperware or ZipLock bowls, to cat and dog water or food bowls, to bowling pins (especially children's), to plastic bats, to decorating with fake bats and Halloween objects, plastics contribute useful products. Whether we buy plastic flowers or a hose to water real flowers, plastics add to the life's beauty as well as functionality. Even clothing and outerwear can have portions made with polymers of plastics; we'd be drenched and miserable without raincoats and umbrellas. Other than food, challenge yourself to find everyday products that don't use plastics either within the product or as covering made to sell the product.

Is a comb an insulator or a conductor?

Most plastic combs (like for combing your hair) would be classified as insulators. All materials conduct, however, the amount of voltage (i.e. electrical pressure) required to make a material conduct generally cause us to classify materials as either: 1. Conductors (e.g. copper, gold) 2. Insulators (e.g. air, mica, glass, teflon - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_insulation ) 3. Semi-conductors (e.g. Silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge) )
