Er, Does Steel (by itself) Float when placed in water?

(for purposes of this discussion, lets omit masses of steel less than that required to break the water's surface tension, and formulations/constructions of steel purposefully designed to not break the surface tension, both of which are probably possible)

No, ergo steel is more dense in its "usual" formulations & construction.

Which is most dense Steel or Oxygen?

Steel is more dense than oxygen. The density of steel is about 7.87 grams per cubic centimeter, whereas the density of oxygen is about 0.0013 grams per cubic centimeter.

Is steel denser than water?

Doesn't it depend on how much you have of each?Answer:Steel has a higher density than water. Equal volumes of water and steel will not have the same mass, steel will have a much greater mass.

Is Liquid water less dense or more dense?

Liquid water is more dense than ICE , and More dense than water vapour(steam). Liquid water is at its most dense at 2 oC. Water on freezing to ice expands by about 10% of its volume. This is because of the lattice arrangement of water molecules in ice., which does not occur in liquid water., Hence ice floats on water. (icebergs).

Is an ice cube more dense or less dense than liquid water?

Less dense. For most substances, the solid form is more dense than the liquid form; water is a notable exception.Less dense. Why is sea water more dense then fresh water?

Sea water is more dense than fresh water because it contains dissolved salts, minerals, and other substances that increase its mass without significantly increasing its volume. This increased mass causes sea water to be more dense than fresh water, which has a lower concentration of dissolved substances.

Is cork more dense than steel?

No, steel is more dense than cork. Steel has a higher density because it contains more atoms packed closely together compared to cork.

How does liquid affect the height of which some objects float or sink?

Floating and sinking is related to density - if something is more dense (i.e. has more mass per volume) than the fluid it will sink, and if it is less dense then it will float. This is why wood floats in water, and helium balloons float in air - helium is less dense than air and wood is less dense than water. Steel ships float because, although they are made of steel which is more dense than water, the air inside them is less dense than water so the overall effect is floating.

Which has more dense a steel or foam?

Steel is more dense than foam. Steel is a metal with a higher mass per unit volume compared to foam, which is a lightweight, porous material.

Why is steel more dence than water?

Steel is more dense than water because it is made mostly of iron, and iron is much denser than water. The density of iron is 7.874g/cm3, while water's density is 1g/cm3.

What is more dense then water?

Anything that sinks in water is more dense than water.
