There are numerous atomic theories no longer accepted by science, some of which were never accepted. One of the more popular models now rejected is the plumb puddingmodel, in which protons and electrons were clumped together in the atomic nucleus.

We now know only protons and neutrons occupy the nucleus, while electrons "orbit" in clouds known as "probability shells" associated with energy states. To drop to a lower state an electron emits a photon, a bundle of electromagnetic radiation known as light.

The planetary model, that electrons orbit atomic nuclei the way planets orbit the solar system is still taught because it is a useful model, but it is also inaccurate.

What are the two characteristics of an acceptable theory?

An "acceptable theory" is both 1. unproven in the complete sense of the word and yet- 2. yeilds the same results time after time Do not confuse this word with hypothesis or hunch when speaking science. "I have a theory that Jennifer Aniston will remarry" is not a valid sentence! You have a hunch, but not a theory.

How is Albert Einstein related to the atomic bomb?

His theory about atomic fusion helped in the development of the bomb. He also convinced the president to develop the research in it. In the last 25 years of his life he questioned himself concerning the use and development of the bomb and was unhappy that he had helped build the theory and foundation of atomic theory.

How is the modern atomic theory different from Daltons atomic theory?

In Dalton's theory the electrons in the atom travel in a one layered orbital rotation around the nucleus, in the modern, or electron cloud, theory the electrons travel in a more radical patterned movement while still staying in their respected energy levels.

Who is the scientist who first introduced the the atomic theory?

The scientist who first introduced the atomic theory was John Dalton in the early 19th century. Dalton's atomic theory proposed that all matter is made up of tiny, indivisible particles called atoms, each with its own unique properties. His work laid the foundation for modern atomic theory.

Who is accredited with the development of the atomic theory?

The development of the atomic theory is primarily attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus. He proposed that all matter is made up of tiny, indivisible particles called atoms. His ideas laid the foundation for modern atomic theory.

Why was the atomic theory imoportant when first discovered?

because back then they need other methods of science to create more mothion and so then Democritus thought of the atomic theory.

Why do you think our current of atomic structure is well accepted as a scientific theory but is not a scientific law?

In science, "theory" is the name applied to well-established scientific knowledge. It doesn't mean that there are doubts about the atomic theory.
