That still exists with subsonic bullets- they are just traveling slower than the speed of sound (ABOUT 1200 feet per second) The second part of the noise is from the bullet breaking the sound barrier- a high pitched CRACK sound. Subsonics do not do that. Third part of the sound is from the action of the firearm extracting the fired cartridge, and loading a new one.
