With a series circuit when the switch is on, everything is on. When the switch is off or the circuit is broken by a broken light bulb then the whole circuit is off.

In a parallel circuit each parallel branch can have its own switch. If one light bulb is broken it does not mean that any other part of the circuit will stop functioning.

On your panel it is wired parallel so when you have a short on one bedroom it trips only one breaker instead of having all your house with no lights.
