The Japanese emperor knew that to surrender would be a dishonor, so we decided that if he didn't want to surrender, we would just start wiping out tens of thousands of his people at a time, which we did twice with two nukes. So, for the sake of his people NOT getting nuked a third time, not his family, he surrendered.
