Deuterium is the isotope of hydrogen with a nucleus of one proton and one neutron. It occurs naturally in water to a small concentration. The main use at present is as heavy water, which is deuterium oxide ( equivalent to H2O), which is used as a moderator in heavy water reactors, like the CANDU type. Experiments in nuclear fusion use deuterium as a fuel, along with tritium, which is another hydrogen isotope, and if these experiments are ever successful enough to build a fusion power plant this will become a major use for it. Luckily there is a large amount in all the earth's waters.

What kind of nuclear resource does a nuclear power use?

What kind of nuclear resource being used in nuclear power depends on what kind of nuclear power is being used. For nuclear fusion, we use tritium and seawater to obtain deuterium for a DT reaction. In nuclear fission, we commonly use uranium ore.

Which material is used as a moderator in nuclear power plant?

Graphite and heavy water (deuterium oxide) are commonly used as moderators in nuclear power plants to slow down fast neutrons, allowing them to cause fission reactions more efficiently in the fuel rods.

What element is used in a nuclear fusion?

deuterium, and tritium

What type of nuclear reaction are used in nuclear power plants?

fission

Why nuclear power plants are used as base load plants?

Nuclear power plants are capital intensive power plants and hence it is more economic to operate them at high capacity factors (or as base load plants)

How much nuclear energy is used in Indiana?

Indiana has no nuclear power plants.

What element is fuel in nuclear power plants?

Uranium is the primary fuel used in nuclear power plants. Specifically, uranium-235 is the isotope that undergoes nuclear fission to generate heat in these plants.

What element is uesd in nuclear power plants?

Uranium is the primary element used in nuclear power plants for its ability to undergo nuclear fission and produce energy.

What is used in nuclear power plants?

Uranium (SOS?)

Is Silver used as a fuel in nuclear power plants?

NO!

What are nuclear power plants used for?

Used to produce electricity to power cities and towns

What elements can be used in nuclear power plants?

Uranium and plutonium are the most commonly used elements in nuclear power plants. These elements undergo nuclear fission, releasing energy in the form of heat, which is then used to produce electricity.
