I think the rocks can act as a filter for body oils. perfumes etc. It seems natural, that is how fresh water is cleaned as it travels from mountains down to rivers after a winters thaw. It might be a good idea if there was a practicle way to clean them that wouldn't end up with the grim getting back in the water system or in the ground.
