I've found that this happens when a bit of Fabric Softner gets on the clothes.

Sounds ridiculous, but there needs to be plenty of water in the machine, dont pour the softner DIRECTLY onto clothes, & not at the same time as detergent either-as these can both cause the greyish spots.

I've ruined LOADS of clothes this way, I just decided to switch to Fabric Softner Sheets for the dryer only.

Haven't had a single spot since!
