There is almost always at least some wind in west Texas.

Why shouldn't you use wind turbines?

I think that wind turbines are a bad idea. Think about how much it made to make that wind turbine. How much energy it took to make it. Did you know that they will fling ice chunks off flying? Some times whole propeller will go flying off, then they'll hit a building. They have been recorded to fly up to almost a mile. Plus the very annoying noise they make.

How is potential energy used to generate electricity in a hydroelectric power plant?

Think about what happens in a hydroelectric plant. The potential energy in the water is called 'potential' because the water has a place to go-- down. As the water falls it gains more and more kinetic energy. What is the water made to do before it's released? It passes through huge turbines and it makes the turbines spin. It's the spinning of the turbines that generates electricity. The kinetic energy of the water is converted to electricity.

How do turbines and generators work together to make electrical energy?

Turbines are linked to the generators on a common shaft. The turbines are turned by steam (in the case of nuclear, coal, or biomass power plants), by water (in the case of hydroelectric power plants), or by wind (windmills). The turbine then turns the generator, which creates electricity. Think of blowing on a fan. Your "wind" is turning the blades. Now, if that were attached to a generator, you would be creating electricity. (Of course, you'd have to blow REALLY hard...)

What type of energy is in a coal fired power station?

A coal-fired power station primarily generates thermal energy from burning coal. The heat produced is used to generate steam, which drives turbines to produce electricity.

Do wind turbines have to face the wind?

Of course new generation wind turbine has to face wind. The concept of wind turbine is this that wind has kinetic energy, and this energy is converted by WTG by rotary blade into mechanical energy through gear box then again into electrical energy through generator. Here mainly wind is the main criteria, which rotates blade in variable speed depends upon wind density. More density and wind speeed more power will be generated. Besides this there are many versions of wind turbine, Upwind means new generation wind turbine normally we observed, In Down wind turbines turbines has no relation with wind perpendicular to wind. I think you must have got the answer.
