Because wood is a poor conductor of heat.
Conduction. The metal of the spoon conducts heat - therefore it heats up.
The heat transfer that occurs when a spoon in a cup of soup gets hot to the touch is conduction. Heat is transferred from the hot soup to the cooler spoon through direct contact between the two objects.
The energy from the hot soup would transfer to the cold spoon, warming it up. Heat always flows from hotter objects to colder objects until thermal equilibrium is reached.
Well, honey, that metal spoon is conducting heat like it's on a mission. When you leave it in that pot of boiling soup, it's basically turning into a mini hot rod. So, if someone's not paying attention and grabs that spoon, they're gonna get a nice little burn as a souvenir.
Wood is an insulator. Think about it; when you put a wooden or plastic spoon in boiling water, does it burn your hand? No. This is because it slows the flow of heat from the water to your hand. I do not suggest trying the same thing with a metal spoon, which is a good conductor.

Unless you put the spoon on a hot burner or in a hot oven, yes. You body is warmer than room temperature.

Metals have specific heats higher than wood.
Put the soup bowl on a plate and then put the spoon on top of the right side of the plate. That's simple.
To make soup from grass you get a pot get some grass rinse the grass put very very hot water in the pot you got but wait make sure you have enough grass then put the grass in the pot stir with a wooden spoon put some old bay seasoning in the pot and also put crushed red peppers stir it then put the stove temperature on 360 degrees when it looks like thick and it is hot it is finished. Hope you enjoy it! -Barack Obama
Normally, any spoon you put in ice cream(wooden or metal) becomes cold.
The heaviest soup is chowder soup because if you put your spoon through it it will move slow which is most likely chowder.
Metal is a good conductor of heat. Wood is not a good conductor of heat, although I wouldn't exactly call it an insulator of heat either. If you put a wooden spoon halfway into a pot of hot water, the dry part of the spoon will not get hot even though the wet half will be as hot as the water is, if you leave it in for a while. But if you heat up a wooden spoon and keep it dry, let's say by leaving it on a baking sheet and baking it in the oven along with some cookies, you may be able to grab the spoon and pick it up even though it's hot. There's no way you could do that with a metal spoon because you'd "feel" the heat more with metal. The heat would be conducted from the metal spoon to your skin, but a wooden spoon won't conduct much heat to you.

Freeze a wooden spoon and put it on there while lathering with vinegar
