Perhaps it "reminds" us in a way of the gentle motion a baby would feel in its mother's womb. That's just a guess, it could be way off! It doesn't to me. Makes me sick after a while. Don't understand people .

What is the physics theory about rocking chairs?

M = Center of (the occupant's) mass above the floor plane. R = Radius of the rocker arc. When M is less than R, or your center of mass is lower than the center of the rocker arc, the chair will return to center when rocked forward or back. The center position is when M is directly below the center point of the rocker arc. From a side view, M is normally located at a Human's belly button when he/she is in a sitting position. For women it may be slightly forward of the belly button. A value for M can be found by positioning the human above the floor in a comfortable at-rest sitting position. Measure from the belly button to the floor to find M. R > M, and a good dimension for R is 39" or so. Increasing R reduces the period of a rocking cycle. Reducing R increases the period of a rocking cycle. By changing R slightly the rocking period can be "tuned" to match the breathing rate of the occupant. The simple act of breathing, then, will shift the occupant's mass, causing the chair to rock back with each inhale and forward on exhale. Feet on the floor will impede rocking motion. Ideally the occupant's feet will cycle from touching at toes to touching down the heel as the chair rocks. 4D

Why does your chair feel cold when you first sit down?

Metal and plastic are good conductors of heat, so when you first sit down on a cold chair, it can feel cold as it quickly draws heat away from your body. The lack of insulation in these materials allows them to reach the ambient temperature of the room quickly.

Is swinging on the back of a chair bad for you?

Swinging on the back of a chair can be dangerous as it may lead to falls and injuries. It can also put strain on the chair's legs and cause it to tip over. It is recommended to sit properly on a chair with all four legs on the ground for safety.

Is it true to say that a train in which you are travelling is in motion and also at rest?

It's all in your "frame of reference". If you're in a train - say, in the baggage car, where there are no windows, and the track is smooth and straight and the shock absorbers and springs are REALLY good - then you may not be able to feel or see any motion. Your "frame of reference" is that baggage car. You are at rest. If you go up to the normal car and sit in your seat and look out the window, then your "frame of reference" is large enough for you to see the movement; you are in motion. We sometimes get motion sickness when we have TWO frames of reference imposed on us at once; we're in an airplane with the window curtains closed, so we SEE that we're at rest, but we can FEEL the movement of the airplane. Our brains get confused, and we get sick.

How-to stop a rocking chair from walking?

Your rocking chair may need to be re glued. Have someone sit and rock in it and get down and listen for where the creak is coming from. The joints have a tendency to come loose over time as carpenter's glue was animal-water based. After you have checked the joints, sometimes just squeezing a bit of carpenter's glue around the joint will fix the problem without having to disassemble the chair. Let dry for 48 hours before use. By the way, check the humidity of the house. If this item is creaking, it is a possibility that your home is too dry. This can also lead to more colds in the winter. Wood is a good indicator of humidity and a creaking chair means that the house is drier than is necessary.
