Becauase when a feather falls all the air is pushing it up ( air resistance) like a parachute but when the book is there blocking all the air it stays there and lets gravity do the job! hope this helps!

What are the two forces that act on a dropped book as it falls to the floor?

The two forces that act on a dropped book as it falls to the floor are gravity, which pulls the book downward, and air resistance, which pushes against the book as it falls.

What forces are acting on a dropped book as it falls to the floor?

When a book is dropped, the main forces acting on it are gravity pulling it downward and air resistance pushing against it as it falls through the air.

Why do objects of different mass fall at the same rate?

objects of different mass fall at the same rate because the acceleration due to gravity is a constant rate. this means that all objects on the earth surface when dropped accelerate at 9.8m/s^2. the only reason this doesn't happen on earth is because of air resistance. take a feather and book for example the feather has more air resistance and floats sideways as well as down compared to the book that doesn't have much air resistance. BUT if you put the feather on the book then dropped it, they would fall at the same time because air resistance is negligible at this point.

What type of energy is a book on a book shelf?

The energy of a book on a bookshelf is potential energy. This energy is stored in the book due to its position above the ground and can be released when the book is dropped or moved.

Does mass affect the rate at which something falls?

In free fall, mass has no effect on the rate at which something falls, the only two factors affecting it are gravity and air resistance. If you were to drop a feather and a book, the book would only hit the ground first because the feather has more air resistance (the book's mass does not come into play, and gravity is constant). It's a bit confusing, but I hope this helps. Xx

How do you make a written book in Minecraft?

In Minecraft 1.3.1, they added the book & quill item that lets you write and edit a book in Minecraft vanilla. If you combine a book (gotten from 3 papers and a leather) with a feather (dropped by chickens when killed) and an ink sac (dropped from squid when killed), you will get a book & quill that you can write in. You're welcome for the info!
