For the same reason that regular sound passes through solids. A sound is just a vibration, or jolt, that's passed on from one atom (or group of atoms) to the next; so wherever there is some matter, sound can be transported.

Ultrasound waves are high frequency sound waves. As such they are pressure (longitudinal) waves and require a medium through which to travel.

Therefore they will not travel through a vacuum.

Definitely not. Though frequency is beyond audibility, it is sound wave longitudinal in nature and still it is mechanical wave. It badly needs a material medium to get propagated. So it is not possible for ultra sonic waves to pass through vacuum

What type of earthquake wave can go through solids and liquids?

P-waves can pass through liquids, solids, and gases. A P-wave is a type of body wave that has an up and down motion. Another type of body wave is the S-wave. S-waves CAN'T pass through liquids but they can pass through solids and gases. I hope that answered your question. =)

What kind of electromagnetic energy penetrates solids?

All electromagnetic waves technically have the ability to penetrate solids depending on the solid itself. However in a practical sense:- High energy electromagnetic particles can pass through solids such as X-rays (to some extent) and Gamma rays which can pass through several metres of lead reinforced concrete. Radio waves and microwaves can also pass through solids hence why we use these frequencies to communicate. Infra-red can permeate through house walls and such. Hence why infrared cameras are used by police. visible and ultraviolet will only pass through transparent substances or really thin solids. They are more likely to be absorbed or reflected than to pass through objects.

What are filterable solids?
