The term Biomass refers to biological material, usually plant-derived materials.

Biomass is a generic term however and can refer to any material that was of biological origin. One normally requires that the material retain the basic organic make up of the living organism, this coal is not considered biomass but dead plants are biomass. Coal has been substantially changed chemically since it was biomass millions of years ago. Manure can be considered biomass since it can retain a large portion of the original chemical makeup of the plants which were the original source.

Biomass is relevant to renewable energy because it sometimes contains a substantial amount of chemical energy that was present in the original biological organism. When you burn a log, you get energy from biomass.

Many forms of biomass are not useful as a potential source of energy. Bacteria and fungi constitute a large fraction of the currently living biomass on Earth and there is no practical plan to collect it for use as biofuel, but that is an active area of research.

Energy sources other than fossil fuel are called what kind of resources?

They are called renewables. (though strictly, nuclear power is not a fossil fuel and is not renewable). They are called alternative energy sources.

What are energy resources that can be replaced called?

Energy resources that can be replaced are called renewable energy sources. These include solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biomass energy, which are naturally replenished and virtually inexhaustible. Using renewable energy sources can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable energy practices.

Energy sources other than fossil fuel are called what resources?

Renewable energy resources.

Water wind and solar energy can be replenished over relatively short time spans so they are called .?

Renewable.

Water wind and solar energy can be replenished over relatively short time spans so they are called what?

Renewable.

What is a another name for renewable energy source?

alternative energy

What are renewable energy sources sometimes called?

They are sometimes called alternative energy sourcesbecause they are not the ones used now. (Yet!)

Is electrical energy renewable or non renewable?

The most popular renewable energy sources currently are: Solar energy. Wind energy. Hydro energy. Tidal energy. Geothermal energy. Biomass energy.

Fuels such as the wind and sun that can generate power without being used up?

Wind energy and solar energy are called renewable energy sources. Other renewable energy sources include hydroelectricity (generated by water movement) and geothermal energy.

Is the energy source renewable?

Renewable energy sources are naturally replenished and can be sustained indefinitely, whereas non-renewable sources will eventually run out. Examples of renewable energy sources include solar, wind, and hydro power.

What does non renewable energy not include?

Non-renewable energy sources do not include solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy. These sources are considered renewable because they can be naturally replenished in a relatively short period of time.

Does Ontario rely mostly on non renewable or renewable sources of energy?

Most of Ontario's energy comes from non-renewable sources such as natural gas and nuclear power. While the province has been investing in renewable energy sources like hydroelectric and wind power, the majority of its energy still comes from non-renewable sources.
