Best Answer

In the reference frame of the interface between two surfaces, static friction does Zero work, because there is never displacement between the surfaces. But it can be positive , negetive or zero with respect to choosen frame of reference.

If the force applied to an object doesnt make the object move then no friction has been done is this true?

Yes, there is us. Static Friction.

Is friction produced when work is done?

No.

Can work be done by friction?

Yes because work=friction ×distance

How friction can be a nuisance?

Friction can be a nuisance when it causes wear and tear -- on parts in machinery, on items of clothing, furniture, etc. Friction can also be a nuisance when it causes static electricity. The static electricity, depending on the circumstances, can cause anything from a mild shock and clothing cling to an explosion at a gas pump or near gas fumes in a building. It can also cause damage while work is being done on the insides of a computer.

Is it easier to lift a 50 kilogram box straight up 8 meters or slide it up an inclined plane that is 20 meters long?

While lifting it straight up is harder, overall it is less work because you do not have to contend with the friction of the inclined plane. Overcoming that friction is work done which is totally wasted. While lifting it straight up is harder, overall it is less work because you do not have to contend with the friction of the inclined plane. How does the output work done by machine change when friction is reduced?

Increases

Explain why the work done of sliding friction is negative when an object undergoes a dispalcement on a rough surface?

Work is done when a force is applied over a distance. If the force acts opposite the direction of motion, like friction, then the work is negative.

Work done against gravity work done against friction?

Umm I really don't know but let me think tho

What friction is a form of kinetic friction?

i don't know. if its your home work to be done yourself =(. if it isn't good because its a sign of curiosity = )

What effect will the direction of the applied force to a book have on the amount of work being done?

The work being done will be increased if you pick it up instead of dragging it due to the friction.

How much work is done if a 10kg mass is moved 5 meters?

The work done is the force multiplied by the distance. You don't have the force in this case; if there is no friction, you would need zero work. If the mass moves is on a flat surface, multiply by the coefficient of friction to get the force required. The coefficient of friction varies for different combinations of materials. The work done is the force multiplied by the distance. Is friction is a foe?

Friction can be a friend when walking and when driving a car. For example, walking or driving on ice can be very risky due to the lack of friction. Friction can be a foe when it causes more work to have to be done or excess heating. Friction is responsible for our getting blisters on our hands or feet.
