The word 'gravity' comes from Classical Greece, and means 'weight'.

We use the words, grave,( as in serious), or in ( a burial plot),

Graving Dock, ; where a ship is allowed to go out out water, and be its own weight.

A person is said to have 'gavitas' if they are serious.

In astronomical terms, gravity; is the 'weight' of attraction between two, or more, astronomical bodies.

The Earth attracts gravitational pull between itself and the Moon , and Sun.

Similarly, The Sun does the same in the opposite direction. to the Earth and the Moon.

The Moon also has gravitational attraction which it influences the Erth, and Sun.

It is like a three-way pull. The Sun having the strongest pull, because it is the most massive.

The strength of gravity is generally seen to be , the greater the mass/weight, the stronger the attraction.

The analogy is ; think of yourself and a small child playing ' swing around' , whilst holding hands. Since you are bigger, more massive, you can pull the small child further, and more strongly. However, you can also feel the small child pulling on you, but less strongly !!!! The same goes on in space, with astronomic bodies.
