columbian tegus can bite pretty hard and can draw blood. But argentine black and white tegus if handled to be tamed can be very rewarding! Wild tegus are harmful.

Nope. I live on the Island and I saw about 3 Tegus on a shelf in Petland Discount :) It was a black and white Tegu. They are certainly not illegal! However, they do cost $100. Hoped that help!
