Available info varies widely and the jury is still out. Looks like it has medicinal and food value, but like too much dairy and meat can cause constipation and too much spinach can cause urinary stones, peony (flowers and roots) can cause problems. The root has been used for centuries in Chinese Herbology and is considered a most valuable herb.
Peonies are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. Call your vet or Animal Poison Control Center at. 888-426-4435. They are not poisonous to people.
There are many types of peonies and they have different numbers of petals. Single peonies have between 5 to 12 petals. Other peonies have multiple rows of petals.
Perennial
Peonies need a period of cold to flower so in most temperate climates you can grow peonies.
Both are flowers.
"partnership" or "mutually beneficial" ie. Ants and peonies have a symbiosis or symbiotic relationship. (Peonies will not bloom unless they have ants on them.)
Peonies tend to attract ants to the flower buds. This is due to the nectar that forms on the outside of the flower buds.
Peonies are in the genus Paeonia.
Tulips and peonies cannot crossbreed because they belong to different plant families. Tulips are part of the Liliaceae family, while peonies belong to the Paeoniaceae family. Because they are genetically distinct and have different reproductive structures, hybridization between them is not possible.
Peonies are best planted in the fall, allowing time for the roots to establish before winter. They can also be planted in the early spring, as soon as the ground is workable. Avoid planting during extreme heat or when the ground is frozen.
The best way to rid the peonies of ants is to repot them. Make sure that you have not transferred the ants into the new pot, however.
The peonies should come back but they may not be as strong as they could be. The plant needs the leaves to gather energy for the new blooms in spring.
