They grow singly.When boys give roses to their girlfriend,the flower is singly and it can still stay alive.If it is grown in clusters,the plucked flower will die.

This is not strictly true. Most roses will grow in clusters if left to nature. Single stem roses are produced by disbudding by the grower.
