Does black top match green pants?

In the cartoon the Little Mermaid they used purple shells and a green tail to dress Ariel. I know it's not the direct answer but the animators said that they looked good together and didn't clash with her red hair :D

Black is a "neutral" meaning that it goes with anything. Other colors of neutral are the shades of brown and gray. You can pair any other color with these three colors to have a striking outfit. Just do not mix too many bright colors with the neutral or you will have too much going on in the outfit.

Try this experiment. Get a black piece of cloth and put an apple on it. The colors of the apple will pop out as very strong. So it is with any color paired with black.
