For zone 6 (Central New Jersey), if you have planted it in a pot, before the 1st frost (usually October) put it in an unheated room or garage. Preferably next to a window so it can still get sun. Water thoroughly once a month. Stop fertilizer in September. I've been doing this for 3 years now and the plants are at least 5 feet tall. I brought one in doors and it did not do as well. I think the trick to keeping it alive, if you bring it indoors is to make sure it does not fully dry out. Will need watering every other week if brought indoors. If the plant is properly taken care of it can be divided from the baby shoots off the side of the plant. during the late summer or fall, replanted in another pot. I have tried to leave them in the ground and they do not survive the winter outdoors. Be sure to cut out the dead foliage to make room for under planting of plants within the same pot. Plants should be not taller the 8 to 12" tall. The bigger the pot these plant are planted in the bigger it will grow. If you must leave the plant outdoors, because it has gotten too huge to bring in doors. bury the pot and mulch heavy near the foundation of the south side of your house.
