Lightning
Lightning strikes can cause various symptoms. They usually loosen bark which hangs in strips. The amount of bark loosened depends on the severity of the strike. The lightning bolt may have passed through the trunk and caused considerable internalwood damage that may not be visible. If only a small amount of damage occurred, remove damaged branches and loose bark and provide excellent cultural practices (mulch, water during drought, and fertilize). Damaged trees can die within a short period of time or years later following a period of stress. If lightning strikes your tree, it may show obvious damage, or it might be hidden. Consult a professional arborist if you think your tree has been hit.
A burn scar can get into a tree when the tree is exposed to fire, either from a wildfire or a controlled burn. The intense heat can damage the outer bark and cambium layer, leading to discolored or charred areas on the trunk. As the tree grows, this scar may become embedded in the bark, creating a permanent mark that reflects the tree's history and resilience. Over time, the tree may also heal around the scar, but the evidence of the burn will remain visible.

The place on a tree branch where a leaf has fallen from is called a leaf scar. This mark is left behind when the leaf detaches and falls from the tree branch, and it can vary in size and shape depending on the type of tree.
A growth scar on a tree is a mark left behind after injury or damage to the tree's bark or wood. It shows as a distinct line or callus where the tree has healed and resumed growth. Growth scars can provide insight into the tree's history and help researchers study its past injuries and growth patterns.

Yes, you can burn out a tree stump by lighting a fire on top of it and letting it burn until the stump is reduced to ashes.
I think in my opion that you could use a metal detector i don't know if you can still buy them these days but im pritty sure you can. Then you could put it against the tree and see if theirs anything inside it. Daniel
