Yes! You can grow angel and devil's trumpets in zone 7. I have grown them for years. Don't put them out too early as they do not like to freeze though they will survive a light freeze. Grow in full sun. Large pots for the angels and smaller ones for the devils. Fertilize lightly every week during the growing/blooming season. Do not let them dry out when it is hot and sunny. Overwinter in the garage or greenhouse watering lightly a few times a month. These are terrific on a patio especially when entertaining in the evening. That's when the blooms open the most and you can enjoy their amazing fragrance.

How will knowing the plant hardiness zone for your area help you plan a garden?

It tells you which plants can usually grow unprotected in your area. If you live in zone 6, and a plant you want to grow is hardy to zone 6, you can grow that plant unprotected all year. If its only hardy to zone 7, you need to protect it for the winter. In general, if a plant's hardiness zone is less than or equal your garden zone, it needs no protection. If greater, protect it.
