Tulips are not native to Jamaica and typically thrive in temperate climates with a distinct cold period. Jamaica's warm, tropical climate is not suitable for tulip growth, as they require a period of dormancy in cooler temperatures. As a result, tulips are generally not grown in Jamaica without special cultivation methods, such as refrigeration.
Cut tulips continue to grow because of phototropism. When cut and placed in a vase, the tulips bend towards the light, and so they elongate.
