Redwood trees have adapted to temperate forests with thick, fire-resistant bark to protect against wildfires, shallow root systems that spread wide to anchor in the moist soil, and high tannin content in their leaves to deter herbivores. Their needles also have a waxy coating to reduce water loss and retain moisture in the foggy environment.

Temperature and moisture content are the two main properties that characterize an air mass. The temperature indicates whether the air mass is warm or cold, while the moisture content denotes if it is dry or moist. These properties influence weather conditions and how the air mass will behave as it moves.
They form when warm, moist air over the ocean rises and cools, creating areas of low pressure. As more air rushes in to fill this low pressure area, it starts to spin due to the Earth's rotation. If the storm continues to strengthen, it can develop into a hurricane (in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific) or a typhoon (in the Western Pacific).

wind comes from the land and is moist
The moist air from the Pacific Ocean brings heavy precipitation to the western slopes of the Cordilleras, leading to lush vegetation and wet climates. In contrast, the eastern slopes are in a rain shadow, receiving less precipitation and resulting in drier conditions. This creates a stark contrast in the ecosystems and environments between the eastern and western slopes of the Cordilleras.
Banana slugs are found in redwood forests along the Pacific Coast of the United States. The color ranges from bright yellow, yellow with black splotches, brown and even black. After rains or fog, the forest is very moist and a banana slug is easy to find. On hot day, this moisture loving mollusk is no where to be found- probably trying to avoid the heat so it doesn't dry up.
Washington receives a lot of rain compared to other states because of its location in the Pacific Northwest, where moist air from the Pacific Ocean is pushed inland by prevailing winds, causing frequent rainfall.
