Dicotyledons, commonly referred to as dicots, are a group of flowering plants characterized by having two embryonic leaves or cotyledons in their seeds. This classification includes a wide variety of plants, such as roses, beans, and sunflowers. Dicots typically exhibit broad leaves with a network of veins, and their flowers usually have parts in multiples of four or five. They also tend to have a taproot system, which distinguishes them from monocotyledons (monocots).
