Lemurs primarily inhabit the forest floor and understory layers of the rainforest. They are often found in the lower canopy, where they can easily access food sources like fruits and leaves. Some species may also venture into the upper canopy, but their activity is mostly concentrated closer to the ground.
The canopy layer in the rainforest
Orangutans live in the rainforest canopy. Other animals that live in the canopy are the sloth, toucans, parrots, spider monkeys, and lemurs. The layer under the canopy is called the understory and the layer below that is the rainforest floor.
Lemurs typically live in the understory layer of the rainforest, which is the layer beneath the canopy where there is less light and vegetation is more dense. They are known to move between the understory and the canopy to find food and shelter.
