Ecstasy, commonly known as MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), is a synthetic drug and is not derived directly from any plant. However, it is chemically related to compounds found in the sassafras plant, which contains safrole. Safrole can be extracted and used as a precursor in the illegal synthesis of MDMA. Therefore, while ecstasy itself is not a natural product, its origins trace back to certain natural sources.
