Post-emergent herbicides that are applied in conjunction with a schedule of hoeing, mowing, raking, and removing (from the surface 10 inches [30.48 centimeters] down) are weed killers that control yarrow. Pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides such as Roundup that contain glyphosate do not control the weed in question (Achillea millefolium) whereas post-emergent weed killers that contain such active ingredients as dicamba, fluroxypyr with clophyralid and MCPA, triclopyr, or 2,4-D with dichlorprop-p and/or mecoprop-p work.

Limited populations of yarrow, where it is clear that no chemicals are or have been used, may be controlled by the constant stress of harvesting oils for homemade shampoo and young flowers and leaves for fresh salads.
