No. He managed to get to the emerald shrine, but the four-armed man caught up to him and stole the emerald. Cactus McCoy defeated him and retrieved the emerald, but before he could place it in the shrine, the curse progressed and turned him into stone. Luckily, the emerald fell out of his stone hand and into the shrine. This sent a wave of power flying across the room, which enabled Cactus McCoy to break out of the stone. Apparently, he was still alive but could not move. This would have kept him from drinking and eating, and possibly breathing, so he would have starved/asphyxiated. By Amystery
