[1] In their native Argentinian and Chilean habitats, monkey puzzle trees are found growing in areas of good air circulation. For they're wind-pollinated. [2] They're also found growing in areas of heavy snowfall. So they're used to abundant watering, be it by rain or snow fall events. But they're not used to, and don't handle well, poorly drained soils. [3] And they're found growing on the mountain slopes of the Andes. So they're used to an altitude of 1,000 meters/3,280 feet. Elsewhere, they don't have to grow at higher elevations or in colder locations. In fact, they like temperate weather. But they do have to have clean air. For they're not used to, and don't handle well, pollution. [4] And they're also found growing with other conifers. So they're used to slightly acidic soils.
