The sabal palmetto, also known as the cabbage palmetto, is a species of palm native to the southeastern United States, particularly Florida and the Carolinas. It was first formally described by the botanist William Bartram in the 18th century during his explorations. However, as a native species, it had been known and utilized by Indigenous peoples long before its formal discovery by European botanists.
