There is no way of knowing who discovered Geraniums although they were named by Dioscorides an ancient greek, after the word geranos meaning crane as in the birb. This gives the plant its common name of Cranesbill. If you mean Pelargonium which is commonly called Geranium by error then again it is named from pelargos a stork as the seed pod looks like a storks bill.

You can see where the confusion between the two plants comes from.
