Since they are a perennial, you can't just remove them using a weedwacker before the blooms turn into fluff. The problem is that the tap root can be 10 inches long and the stem is somewhat brittle, leaving portions that the plant can use to regrow. Trying to pull the plant out of wet ground is sometimes helpful. Use an herbicide on the broad leaves on a sunny day; feed your lawn so that it crowds out any seeds before they can sprout.
