A spruce is a evergreen and a maple is deciduous.
A spruce tree is a coniferous evergreen (pine needles and cones) and most maple trees are deciduous (leaves fall off).
Some of the most common types of trees in a temperate rainforest include Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, western red cedar, and hemlock. These trees thrive in the moist and mild climate of temperate rainforests, providing habitat for a variety of plant and animal species.
Pine, spruce and fir are evergreen.
Temperate forests often contain trees that keep their leaves all year. This includes trees such as oaks, maples, and sequoias.
The natural vegetation of the temperate zone includes deciduous forests with trees that shed their leaves in the fall, such as oak, maple, and beech. Coniferous forests with evergreen trees like pine and spruce are also common. Grasslands and meadows can be found in some temperate regions as well.

Probably because temperate rain-forests are their natural environment, where conditions are right for them.
Spruce trees struggle to compete with maple trees in southern forests primarily due to differences in climate tolerance and resource requirements. Spruce are more adapted to cooler, moist environments, while maples thrive in warmer, drier conditions typical of southern regions. Additionally, maple trees often have a faster growth rate and better ability to utilize sunlight, allowing them to outcompete spruce for light and nutrients in these ecosystems. As a result, maples can dominate the forest canopy, leaving spruce at a disadvantage.
Maple trees do not typically grow in rainforests. They are more commonly found in temperate regions with distinct seasons, whereas balsa, teak, and mahogany are species that thrive in tropical rainforest environments. The climate and soil conditions of rainforests are not suitable for maple trees.
