Banned where? It's not, as far as I can see, banned. In fact, it has won awards. The original short story Daniel Keyes later expanded it into a novel of the same title, which was published in 1966. The novel won the Nebula Award for Best Novel in '66. It was banned, in around the 1960s, but some schools is placed like Texas. It was also banned from some school curriculums, but the bans were lifted quite shortly.
In state schools it was banned in 1987. In private schools it was banned in 1999 (England and Wales) and 2000 (Scotland).
