If you bump into someone you could say "I do beg your pardon". If it is more serious like knocking them down with a car you might say "I am really sorry" or "Please forgive me. I am so sorry"

Acknowledge what you did, express your regret, and promise to try to do better in the future. Say you are sorry for any hurt or pain you caused.

Dear Mathilda,

I have been thinking a lot about what I said when you asked me what I thought of your new puppy. Beanie is totally adorable, and it was really mean of me to say that I thought he looked like the fuzz I pull out of my hairbrush. I guess I was just feeling jealous because you love him so much. But who wouldn't? He is sweet and friendly and I hope I get a chance to play with him.

I promise not to make fun of your pet any more, and I am really sorry that I hurt your feelings. Please forgive me. I miss you.

That's a made-up example, not too serious, but you could use it as a model with more serious language for something pretty bad.

The most important things are (1) to admit the wrong you did (even if you weren't the only one!), (2) to apologize, and (3) to ask for forgiveness, and--most important of all--(4) to be sincere.
